The most important task of the chickens, ducks, geese and guinea fowls is laying eggs.
Part of these we use in the kitchen, part of them we leave to the birds for breeding.
Having the the little ones around is a joyful happening, watching them running and falling, jumping and sliding! For the mothers it's a task teaching them about the world around.
The ducks, Indian Runners, do a great job and breed about a 20 a year.
The chickens prefer laying eggs, for then heading off for something more important.
Mother Goose breeds the eggs for a while but seems not having the patience to do it for the time needed. And as for the guinea fowls; we had one breeding for an awesome while but probably there is no male amongst them... hard to reckognise!
